Evangeline: a Tale of Acadie
The "Expulsion of the Acadians" or "le Grand Dérangement" is one of the saddest chapters in the history of the colonial struggle between Britain and France.
This is the story of Evangeline and Gabriel, two young Acadians who were cruelly separated on the very day in which they were to be wed.
Evoking both the geography and the spirit of "La Belle Acadie," Longfellow's sweeping tale takes us from the tide-washed shores of Nova Scotia's Minas basin, across the the vast breadth of 18th-century America, from the Louisiana bayous to the foothills of the Ozarks, to its final, heart-wrenching conclusion in the plague-ridden poorhouses of Philadelphia.
Bob Connon reads Longfellow's epic story of the Acadian diaspora and of Evangeline's long and fruitless search for her beloved Gabriel.

The Historic Churches of Prince Edward Island
This volume was first published in 1986, the first in a series of three architectural histories of PEI by the award-winning author, historian and architect H. M. Scott Smith. It is an engaging and thorough look at the origins of religious architecture in Prince Edward Island, tracing its growth until 1914. Featuring the gorgeous photography of Lionel Stevenson, the book describes 41 of the Island’s most prominent historic churches. There is also an informed essay on construction techniques and profiles of the architects and builders of the day, the most prominent of whom was undoubtedly W. C. Harris. Both covers are significant - the front helped to save the featured church from demolition and the back for its photographic splendour.

A Light in the Field

Lighthouses, Fishery Buildings, Barns and
Mills of Prince Edward Island
Handsome historic buildings dot the countryside of rural PEI. The barns that dominate the farmyards, the old mills beside the streams, the well-used fish sheds and canneries at wharfside, and, most dramatic of all, the lighthouses on the headlands all speak of a sturdy building tradition that continues to this day. In A Light in the Field, author Scott Smith shows these buildings inside and out, from land, sea and air. He tells the stories of how and why they were built, who built them, and what has befallen them since they were new.
